The Innocent Beauty Of A Child

Yesterday, you tried to give mummy an open-mouthed kiss. Lately, mummy's caught you looking curiously at mummy and daddy in the midst of kissing. Several times now you have given me pecks on the lips that are more passionate and how shall I put this, 'lingering'. What you did yesterday though brought tickles right to mummy's belly. You had your little face right in front of mine, you drew your face nearer as you usually do when you want to give mummy a smack on the lips but this time you opened your mouth. Oh the innocence of a four year old! I moved back and smiled. I then told you that is a special kiss that only mummy's and daddy's do. Little children kiss like this (and I give you a firm kiss on your lips) or like this (and I peck your rosy red cheeks this time). You smile shyly at mummy and I grin right back at you. Mummy tries to explain further to make sure you understand but you avoid my gaze. I know you understand and are starting to feel a little self-conscious. Subject dropped immediately.

You enjoy telling mummy stories, your own made-up fairy tales most of the time. There are a lot of pauses in between where you think so very hard of an interesting continuation. You have now started to enjoy Disney immensely. And so your stories end with, "....and they fall in love. THE END". The whole girly-princess phase has started! And so soon too. Mummy's pretty sure Shan has her pretty princess magic wand in all of this! That's ok, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

All that shines and glitters. You don't like it unless it shines. If it's a dress, it better be glittery! When mummy puts on make-up, so must you. Well, actually not anymore; mummy's now set some rules. Little girls get make-up on special occassions selected and applied only by mummy. Why? Because mummy is an adult, and when you become one, you can have all the make-up you want!

Inside and out, you are perfect exactly the way you are. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. It is impossible to love others if you do not love yourself.

Love always,

Mummy
